The Just Right Book
There are several tools that can assist in selecting a “just right book.” Lexiles, (www.lexile.com) as indicated by SRA tests, NWEA tests and other standardized measures are one way to match readers to books. Book lexiles are derived from sentence and word length.
For Spanish lexile levels use: www.lexile.com/about-lexile/el-sistema-para-leer Another option would be to visit ReadtheBooks.com through the Prospect Heights Public Library. Students also use the “Five Finger Rule.” Students open a book to a middle page and put up a finger for every word they miss. -No fingers indicates the book is too easy -Five fingers means its too hard for now -1-3 fingers up means the book is just right |
